Regional Art Gallery in Liberec - German and Austrian Painting of 19th Century

One of the prestigious collections of the gallery is the ensemble of pictures and drawings by German and Austrian artists of 19th century. The majority of the most valuable works comes from Heinrich Liebieg's endowment.

Today this collection contains more than 220 items. Some authors, e.g. the landscape painter Eugen Jettel, August Pettenkofen or veduta painter Rudolf Alt, are represented by outstanding and numerous collections. The creations of other artists, e.g. Wilhelm Leibl, Franz Lenbach, Adolf Menzel or Gabriel Max, are presented by paintings of top quality. Even the works of painters now newly discovered are included. Among them are even Eduard and Hugo Charlemont, the representatives of the so called historical painting.

This collection is not accessible to the public at present but a new comprehensive representative catalogue of this collection was issued in 1997.
