Regional Art Gallery in Liberec - Czech Art of 20th Century

The exhibited ensemble is only a fraction of the numerous and the same time of the high quality collection of Czech art of 20th century. Its first acquisition were acquired in 1927 when the Museum of Northern Bohemia bought the collection of Bloch brothers'. Among other works this collection contained even a few valuable early works by Willi Nowak, Georg Kars and Alfred Justitz. Other works of this collection were acquired only after 1945 and especially after the gallery came into being in 1953.

The permanent exhibition has been arranged chronologically since the turn of the century till the 1980s. Due to the lack of space only the most important stages of developement of the Czech modern art are stressed (the turn of the century, the coming Czech avant-garde and the group Sursum, cubism, imaginative art, war and after war art, informel and the new figure of art). All works created till 1974 are mentioned in the catalogue.
