Sculpture Collection

The sculpture collection of the Liberec Regional Gallery contains more than three hundred works. It includes several solitary wooden sculptures dating back to the 15th-18th century, mostly of unknown date and origin. They are estimated to come from the North Bohemia region. The European sculpture of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century are represented by the Bronze sculptures by the Paris sculptor Jacques Gautier, the Belgian sculptor Constantin Meunier, and the Modern sculpture genius Antoine Bourdelle. His Bust of the painter Ingres accompanies the permanent exhibition of the 19th century French painting. The 20th century Czech art forms the largest part of the collection. The sculpture collection contains the founders of the Czech modern sculpture, Josef Václav Myslbek and Jan Štursa, representatives of the interwar Avant-gardes, and the key sculptors of the second half of the 20th century. The sculpture collection is continuously extended with acquisitions corresponding with the collection character and the exhibition plan of the Gallery. The paintings, drawings, and graphic art of some sculptors are also present in other collections of the Gallery.
