Acquisitions, New Arrivals to the Collections

The Liberec Regional Gallery acquires new works of art in two ways – by purchase or as a gift. The purchasing potential of the Gallery is limited and depend on the financial means the Gallery obtains from its founder, the Liberec Region. Nevertheless, within the last few years the institution managed to extend the collections by an interesting group of artwork. Their complete list is below in the text.

The Liberec Regional Gallery of course tries to acquire works from the artists who exhibit in the Gallery, it negotiates with heirs and collectors, and receives artwork as gifts. Prior to concluding a contract, the purchase committee, Director’s advisory body, assesses each purchase proposal or gift. This expert committee consists of renowned specialists and even though the recommendation it issues is not binding, it is usually followed. The advisory body meets irregularly, when necessary.

The main goal of all the purchases is to maintain the high artistic and historical value of the collections, and continue developing the specified collecting direction.
